About the Plants &
Flower Fair 2024

Introduction

In the face of escalating global challenges like climate change and persistent gender inequalities, the role of agriculture and horticulture in sustaining communities and economies is more crucial than ever. As we celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Annual Plants and Flower Fair in 2024, we proudly embrace the theme "Garden of Equality: Nurturing Women’s Contributions in Agriculture." This year, we spotlight the critical contributions of women and youth in the agriculture and horticulture sectors, acknowledging their role in shaping a more sustainable and equitable future.

This year’s fair will explore how women and youth are driving innovation, resilience, and sustainability in horticulture, while also addressing the barriers they face in accessing resources, training, and technology.

The recent heat waves across Accra and other regions of Ghana highlight the urgent need for climate-smart solutions. At the heart of these solutions are plants and flowers, which provide more than just beauty. Urban green spaces, gardens, and parks play a vital role in cooling our cities, improving air quality, and fostering environmental resilience. This year’s fair will emphasize the importance of these spaces, showcasing how the horticulture sector can help mitigate climate change’s impact on agriculture, food security, and urban environments.

Women and youth are increasingly leading the way in floriculture and horticulture, contributing fresh perspectives and sustainable practices. Yet, many still face significant challenges, including limited access to land and financial resources. The 2024 Annual Plants and Flower Fair will serve as a platform to celebrate their achievements, foster dialogue on overcoming these barriers, and highlight the importance of plants and flowers in addressing climate challenges.

By choosing the theme "Garden of Equality," we aim to create a space where the achievements and contributions of women in agriculture are recognized, celebrated, and supported. Through workshops, exhibitions, and discussions, we’ll explore innovative climate solutions, gender empowerment, and sustainable agricultural practices, all contributing to a greener, more inclusive future.

Join us in celebrating five years of promoting horticultural progress, environmental stewardship, and gender equality. Let’s nurture these seeds of change together!
